Keeping Kids Warm (KKW) is a coat donation program in which Charming Shoppes, Inc. outfits grade-school children from low-income families in areas of need with new winter coats. We are celebrating the 10th anniversary of KKW by donating new winter coats to every student in the seven elementary schools of Galesburg, Illinois, a small town reeling from recent factory closings. As this heartwarming initiative has grown, our customers around the country have asked us how they can be involved, so we planned something special this year. We’re inviting our customers to participate by purchasing a specially designed limited-edition Keeping Kids Warm throw blanket ($28, plus shipping and handling), sold exclusively at charmingshoppes.com through December 31, 2005. Blanket sale proceeds will be earmarked for KKW’s expansion into additional communities in years to come. “Our company remains committed to women and children, and we wanted to mark KKW’s tenth anniversary with our most ambitious and far-reaching program to date,” said Dorrit Bern, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charming Shoppes. “At our core, we are passionate about giving back to the community, and KKW has been a wonderful way to help communities and families across the country. This year, our tenth, we feel it is important to include our customers in this exciting program, as we know they care about children and giving back to the community as much as we do.” In addition to visiting Galesburg, the 2005 KKW program will spearhead a new initiative, Ten Schools for Ten Years on, November 9th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th, during which our Philadelphia-based company will donate winter coats to grade-school students at 10 different Philadelphia-area schools. In total, Charming Shoppes aims to provide new coats this year to 15,000 children at 30 different schools, including schools in Denver, Spokane, Minneapolis and Syracuse. The children have the opportunity to specify the color and size of coat they would like, and Charming Shoppes aims to provide coats to fit each child’s description. To date, Charming Shoppes has donated more than 30,000 winter coats to elementary students in Philadelphia; Baltimore; Cincinnati; Detroit; Minneapolis; St. Louis; Rochester, New York; Indianapolis; and Camden and Newark, New Jersey. |
