Do your store associates have incentive programs, such as commissions?

Our store sales staff has opportunities to participate in many sales-incentive contests and programs. Rewards include money, merchandise and gift cards. For each brand, we work as a team to create an environment that provides the best shopping experience possible for our customers. Charming Shoppes regularly monitors local market conditions and the retail industry. We take pride in paying our store associates throughout the country a highly competitive wage.

Where are your offices located?

Charming Shoppes’ Corporate Headquarters and the Fashion Bug, Lane Bryant Outlet and Petite Sophisticate Outlet home offices are located in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, a northeastern suburb of Philadelphia. Lane Bryant's home office is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and our Catherines home office calls Memphis, Tennessee, home. We have two distribution centers, one in Greencastle, Indiana, and the other in White Marsh, Maryland. New York City is the home of our public relations team and Charming Interactive, which guides the development of our e-commerce sites. In Milford, Ohio, a Cincinnati suburb, Spirit of America National Bank coordinates the portfolio for our private-label credit cards.

What is your relocation policy?

If a position is eligible for relocation, the associate will receive relocation assistance under our corporate relocation program. In partnership with our relocation provider, we will ensure your move is handled with professional care and minimal inconvenience to you and your family.

How do you typically find new associates?

We look for referrals from our current associates, who know what it takes to succeed professionally in this environment. We also post many positions on online career sites. Also, our most enthusiastic customers often express an interest in working in the fashion business and inquire about available positions.

What are my opportunities for career advancement at Charming Shoppes?

Charming Shoppes has numerous opportunities to build a career path. We promote from within whenever possible, and our multiple brands provide many opportunities for associates to explore. When we offer a promotion, we work hard to ensure the promoted associate will succeed. A number of associates have worked their way up through the company; many of these associates now work with newer staff members to support their development.

In our current program, interns typically work in our Charming Shoppes corporate office as well as in our Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Catherines, Lane Bryant Outlet and Petite Sophisticate Outlet home offices.

Charming Shoppes does not post salaries. Our compensation plan is competitive within the retail industry. Salaries vary depending on the position you apply for and your background and level of experience.

Is the Company staying current with technology?

Yes! We continue to invest in technology in many areas of our business. Our store operations areas across all our brands are currently installing leading-edge hardware and software systems, and our marketing and merchandising staff have access to one of the largest databases of American women who wear plus-size apparel. The Company has put new technology into the Human Resources area, our Business Service Center and our Distribution facilities, to name just a few.

Do you have plans to continue expansion?

The demographics confirm the plus-size business is continuing to gain importance in the women’s apparel market. We currently enjoy a 40 percent share of the women’s plus-size apparel market, which is close to 80 percent of our total sales. We continue to look for opportunities for store expansion, as well as direct-to-consumer channels, to build on our position as America's largest plus-size women's specialty apparel retailer.
